If you’ve spent more than five minutes with me, you already know one thing: I will choose a scary movie over just about anything. Give me a cozy blanket, a snack, my pets curled up beside me, and something creepy playing on the TV, and I’m in my happy place.
Whether it’s spooky season or the middle of July (because let’s be honest, horror season is all year long), these are the five movies I find myself coming back to over and over again.
1. Scream (1996) 🔪📞
This will forever be my number one.
There’s just something about Scream that never gets old. The mystery, the humor, the suspense, and of course Ghostface make it the perfect comfort horror movie. Every time I watch it, I still find myself quoting the lines and trying to guess the killer… even though I already know!
It’s the perfect mix of scary without being too serious, which makes it endlessly rewatchable.
Why I love it:
- Iconic characters
- The best opening scene in horror history
- Ghostface is one of my favorite horror villains
- It’s somehow cozy and terrifying at the same time
2. Haunt (2019) 🎪🩸
If you haven’t watched Haunt, do yourself a favor and add it to your list.
The idea is simple: friends visit an extreme haunted house on Halloween…and quickly realize it’s much more than just actors trying to scare them.
I love haunted house attractions in real life, so this movie takes one of my favorite things and twists it into an absolute nightmare.
Why I love it:
- Creepy masks
- Halloween atmosphere
- Constant suspense
- Underrated gem that deserves more attention
3. The Blair Witch Project (1999) 🌲📹
I know this one can be a little divisive, but I absolutely love it.
There’s something so unsettling about not actually seeing the monster. Your imagination fills in the blanks, and honestly, that’s even scarier. The found-footage style makes everything feel incredibly real, and the ending still gives me chills every single time.
After watching this movie, going into the woods suddenly feels like a terrible idea.
Why I love it:
- Found footage done right
- Builds anxiety instead of relying on jump scares
- Creepy enough to make camping a hard pass
- One of the most influential horror films ever made
4. Spree (2020) 🚗📱
This one is so different from the rest of my list, and that’s exactly why I love it.
Spree is funny, uncomfortable, disturbing, and surprisingly clever. It mixes social media obsession with horror in a way that feels way too believable. Joe Keery absolutely nails the role, making you laugh one second and cringe the next.
It’s weird…but in the best horror movie way.

5. Friday the 13th (2009) 🪓🏕️
I know some people prefer the originals, but I genuinely enjoy the 2009 remake.
Jason is absolutely terrifying in this version. He’s faster, smarter, and somehow even more intimidating. The movie keeps the classic Friday the 13th feel while making everything feel bigger and more intense.
Plus…sometimes you just need a classic slasher movie marathon.
Why I love it:
- One of my favorite versions of Jason
- Great kills (if you’re into slashers!)
- Fun summer camp setting
- Perfect popcorn movie

Everyone has those movies they can throw on no matter how many times they’ve seen them, and these are mine.
They’re my comfort horror movies… the ones I reach for when I want spooky vibes, suspense, and just enough scares to keep things fun.

Oooh I love scary movies. These are some of my favorites:
Poltergeist – Classic childhood favorite
Smile 2 – Smile 1 was great too but the second one was better
Weapons – This one is newer but I was highly impressed
The new It Movies – Welcome to Derry was also amazing and even better than the movies
The Ring or The Grudge – Not sure which one I like better
