Things I’m Doing to Romanticize Fall This Year πŸ‚πŸŽƒ

I wait approximately nine months every year for fall, so when it finally gets here, I refuse to act normal about it.

Some people casually enjoy autumn.

I intend to make it my entire personality. πŸ˜‚πŸ‚πŸŽƒ

Fall has always been my favorite time of year. I love the cooler weather, the colors, Halloween, spooky movies, cozy nights at home, and the fact that suddenly putting tiny ghosts and skeletons all over your house is considered completely acceptable.

But I also feel like fall goes by SO FAST.

One minute I’m excited because September is finally here, and the next thing I know we’re putting up Christmas decorations.

So this year, I really want to slow down and actually enjoy it.

I’m romanticizing the hell out of fall.

Here’s how.

πŸŽƒ Decorating Because It Makes Me Happy

Do I need another pumpkin?

No.

Do I need another ghost?

Also no.

Will that information stop me?

Absolutely not. πŸ˜‚

One of my favorite things about this time of year is making the house feel cozy and spooky.

I don’t care if it’s something big or literally a $5 ghost I found while wandering around a store. If I look at it and it makes me happy, that’s enough.

Life is hard.

Buy the tiny ghost.

🎬 Watching All the Spooky Things

There is something about turning the lights down, getting comfortable on the couch, and putting on a horror movie that immediately makes an evening better.

And I’m not saving them for October.

Absolutely not.

September counts.

Honestly, August was probably pushing it too. πŸ˜‚

This is the time of year for Scream, Beetlejuice, The Haunted Mansion, Corpse Bride, Practical Magic, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and whatever slasher movie I stumble across that I somehow haven’t already seen.

Bonus points if there’s a cat sleeping next to me.

Which brings me to…

🐈 Enjoying Cozy Nights at Home With My Little Zoo

Honestly, one of my favorite places to be is home.

Give me Benny, Cash, Draco, Falcor, Goose, Eric, a blanket, something good on TV, and absolutely NO reason to leave the house.

Perfect.

Especially now that we have Goose, there is basically always something happening around here anyway.

Someone is running.

Someone is meowing.

Someone is barking.

Someone is probably doing something they’re not supposed to be doing.

It’s not exactly peaceful…

but it is cozy. πŸ˜‚

And I wouldn’t trade it.

β˜• Making Ordinary Things Feel a Little More Fall

I think this is really what romanticizing a season is about.

You don’t have to take a huge trip or spend a bunch of money to make life feel special.

Sometimes it’s literally just changing the vibe.

Light the fall candle.

Use the Halloween mug.

Put on the cozy sweater.

Turn on the little orange lights.

Play spooky music while you’re cleaning.

Drink your regular coffee while sitting under a blanket and pretend you’re the main character in a fall movie.

Is it slightly ridiculous?

Maybe.

Does it make an ordinary Tuesday better?

YES.

πŸ–€ Dressing Like It’s Fall Even When Missouri Disagrees

This one is difficult because Missouri does not always cooperate with my seasonal plans.

My heart says sweater.

The weather says absolutely not.

So we compromise. πŸ˜‚

I’m bringing in the fall colors, spooky accessories, Halloween nails, darker makeup, and anything else that says I am emotionally experiencing autumn even if it is still 80 degrees outside.

Eventually the weather will catch up with me.

Hopefully.

πŸ“š Reading Something a Little Spooky

I’m also trying to make more time to actually sit down and read.

Not scroll.

Not watch TikTok while the TV is also playing while I’m simultaneously looking at something else on my phone.

Actually READ. πŸ˜‚

There’s something about fall that makes me want a good mystery, thriller, horror story, or something just a little weird.

Add a blanket, a candle, and a cute spooky bookmark?

That’s an entire evening planned.

πŸ‘» Going to the Spooky Stuff

As much as I love staying home, I also want to actually DO some fall things this year.

Halloween events.

Witches and warlocks festivals.

Pumpkin patches.

Fall festivals.

Anything that gives me an excuse to dress a little witchy and wander around looking at Halloween stuff.

I want to take pictures.

I want to buy something I absolutely did not need.

I want to eat some kind of overpriced seasonal food.

I want the FULL EXPERIENCE. πŸ˜‚

🍁 Taking More Pictures

This is something I’m trying to get better about in general.

Take the picture.

Even if everything isn’t perfect.

Even if your hair isn’t cooperating.

Even if the house isn’t spotless.

Even if it’s just your cat sitting next to a pumpkin looking ridiculously cute.

Take it.

There are so many random pictures on my phone that I love now because they remind me of completely ordinary moments that I probably would’ve forgotten otherwise.

So yes, there will probably be an unreasonable number of pictures of Goose experiencing his first fall.

Sorry in advance.

Actually…

I’m not sorry. πŸ˜‚

πŸ•―οΈ Letting Myself Slow Down

This might be the biggest one.

I am really bad about always thinking about the next thing.

The next thing I need to do.

The next assignment.

The next thing for work.

The next blog post.

The next social media post.

The next thing on my list.

And sometimes I realize I’ve spent so much time thinking about what’s next that I haven’t actually enjoyed what’s happening now.

So this fall, I want more evenings where nothing productive happens.

I want to sit on the couch.

Watch the movie.

Read the book.

Play with the animals.

Light the candle.

Ignore the laundry for another hour.

The laundry will survive.

Fall will not last forever.

πŸŽƒ Basically, I’m Making Fall a Big Deal

Because why not?

Life has enough boring days.

If putting pumpkins everywhere, wearing Halloween nails, watching Scream for the 900th time, buying another ghost decoration, and drinking coffee out of a spooky mug makes an ordinary day feel a little more fun…

I’m doing it.

You don’t need a reason to celebrate the things you love.

You don’t need to wait for a special occasion.

And you definitely don’t need to wait until October 1st to start enjoying spooky season.

So for the next couple of months, I will be fully committed to romanticizing every bit of fall that I possibly can.

Cozy nights.

Spooky movies.

Cooler weather.

Fall festivals.

Books.

Candles.

Pumpkins.

My little zoo.

And probably way too many pictures.

This is my favorite time of year.

I plan on acting like it. πŸ–€πŸŽƒπŸ‚

Happy fall, y’all.
