Does anyone else feel like life is just one giant to-do list that never ends?
Work. Bills. Cleaning. Laundry. Groceries. Appointments. Responsibilities.
And somehow, by the time you finish everything you’re supposed to do, it’s time to get up and do it all over again.
Excuse me, but when exactly are we supposed to enjoy ourselves? 😂
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about how easy it is to get caught up in everything life throws at us.
There’s always something that needs our attention. Something to worry about. Something that needs to be done.
And before you know it, days turn into weeks, weeks turn into months, and you’re wondering where all that time went.
❤️ There’s Always Going to Be Something
I think this is something I’m slowly learning.
There’s never going to be a magical moment when everything is completely caught up.
The laundry will never stay done.
The house will never stay perfectly clean.
There will always be another bill, another responsibility, another thing that needs to be figured out.
And if we keep waiting until everything is perfect before we allow ourselves to enjoy life?
We’re going to be waiting forever.
I’m not saying we should ignore our responsibilities.
Believe me, I wish I could ignore a few of mine. 😂
But I am saying that life can’t ONLY be about responsibilities.
There has to be room for the good stuff, too.
🍂 Sometimes You Have to Make Time for Fun
I’m a homebody. I love being at home with my animals, watching movies, and doing absolutely nothing.
And honestly, sometimes that’s exactly what I need.
But I also love going to fall festivals, exploring new places, dressing up for spooky events, and making memories with Eric.
The problem is, it’s really easy to talk yourself out of doing things.
We’re too busy.
We’re too tired.
We have too much to do.
And sometimes those are completely valid reasons.
But sometimes we need to remind ourselves that it’s okay to put the to-do list down and go have a little fun.
The dishes will still be there when we get home.
Unfortunately. 😂
🖤 Not Everything Has to Be Productive
This is a big one.
I think we’ve gotten so used to being busy that sometimes doing nothing makes us feel guilty.
Like if we’re not cleaning, working, organizing, planning, or accomplishing something, we’re somehow wasting time.
But you know what?
Sitting on the couch watching a movie with your favorite people isn’t wasting time.
Going for a drive just because you feel like it isn’t wasting time.
Spending an afternoon wandering around a little shop isn’t wasting time.
Sitting outside enjoying the weather isn’t wasting time.
Enjoying your life is not a waste of time.
And I think we all need to hear that occasionally.
🌙 The Little Things Are Usually the Big Things
When I think about my favorite memories, they’re not usually the days when I got the most things done.
They’re the random adventures.
The laughing until your stomach hurts.
The nights spent watching movies.
The trips.
The pictures.
The little moments that didn’t seem like a big deal at the time.
Even something as simple as coming home after a long day and being greeted by five animals who act like I’ve been missing for approximately seven years. 😂
Those are the things that make life feel good.
And sometimes we’re so focused on getting through the day that we forget to actually notice them.
⏳ We Don’t Get This Time Back
And I don’t mean that in a sad or scary way.
I just mean that time moves FAST.
We’re always looking ahead to the next weekend, the next holiday, the next vacation, or the next thing we’re excited about.
And I’m absolutely guilty of this.
I spend most of the year counting down to Halloween. 😂🎃
But I don’t want to spend so much time looking forward to what’s next that I forget to enjoy what’s happening right now.
Because one day, the things we’re doing today will be memories.
And I want to have some good ones.
❤️ So Here’s Your Reminder (And Mine)
Take the pictures.
Go to the festival.
Plan the little trip.
Wear the cute outfit.
Buy yourself a coffee.
Watch the movie.
Spend time with the people you love.
Stay home and do absolutely nothing if that’s what makes you happy.
You don’t have to spend a bunch of money or plan some huge adventure to enjoy life.
Sometimes slowing down just means being present for the little moments instead of constantly worrying about what comes next.
And no, life isn’t always going to be easy.
There will be stressful days. Hard days. Days when everything feels like too much.
But I don’t want to look back and realize I spent all my time worrying about life instead of actually living it.
Life is busy. Life is messy. Life is unpredictable.
But there’s still so much good mixed in with all of it.
And I think sometimes we just need to slow down long enough to see it.
Because at the end of the day…
We’re not just here to get everything done. We’re here to enjoy being alive, too. ❤️
