Stuck in a Funk? Here’s What I Do When I Can’t Shake It

You know those days where nothing seems particularly terrible, but you still feel… off?

You wake up tired.
Your motivation packed its bags.
The to-do list feels impossible.
Even the things you normally love don’t sound exciting.

Welcome to the funk.

I’m in one today, and instead of pretending everything is sunshine and rainbows, I thought I’d write about it. Because if you’re reading this feeling the same way, maybe it’ll help to know you’re not the only one.

First Things First: It’s Okay

I think we put so much pressure on ourselves to be productive, positive, and “on” all the time.

The truth?

We’re human.

Some days we’re thriving.
Some days we’re surviving.
Both count.

A bad day doesn’t erase your progress, your goals, or the person you’ve worked so hard to become.

Stop Fighting the Feeling

I’ve learned that the harder I try to force myself out of a funk, the longer I tend to stay there.

Instead of telling myself:

“Come on. Get over it.”

I try saying:

“Okay… today feels heavy. Let’s just make today a little easier.”

Sometimes accepting the mood is the first step toward moving through it.

My Funk Survival List

When I don’t know what to do, I keep it simple.

✨ Take a shower… even if I don’t want to.

✨ Drink some water. (Because somehow I always forget.)

✨ Eat something that isn’t just snacks.

✨ Take a short walk outside or sit in the sun for a few minutes.

✨ Put on a comfort movie or a playlist that feels like a hug.

✨ Spend a little extra time with my pets. They never ask me to explain why I’m sad.

✨ Cross one tiny thing off my to-do list instead of trying to conquer the whole thing.

Notice I said tiny.

Sometimes success is simply answering one email or folding one basket of laundry.

And honestly? That’s enough.

Don’t Mistake Rest for Failure

This one is hard for me.

I always feel like if I’m resting, I’m falling behind.

But I’ve started realizing something:

Rest isn’t quitting.

Rest is maintenance.

Your phone needs charging.

Your car needs gas.

You deserve a recharge too.

Tomorrow Doesn’t Have to Look Like Today

One thing anxiety loves to do is convince us that today’s feelings will last forever.

They won’t.

Think about it.

How many bad days have you already survived?

How many mornings have you woken up feeling completely different than you did the night before?

Feelings are visitors.

They don’t usually sign a lease.

If You’re Reading This…

Maybe you’re in a funk too.

Maybe you’ve been carrying around stress that no one else can see.

Maybe you’re exhausted from trying to keep everything together.

If that’s you, here’s your reminder:

You don’t have to have everything figured out today.

You don’t have to earn rest.

You don’t have to be productive to be worthy.

Sometimes your only job is to make it through today with a little kindness toward yourself.

Tomorrow can worry about tomorrow.

Today, we’re just surviving… and that’s perfectly okay.

❤️ From one person having a “blah” day to another… we’ve got this.
