Okay, so September started over a week ago.
Am I late? Yes.
Am I still going to write an entire blog post welcoming September like she just got here? Also yes.
Because honestly, September deserves a proper welcome.
There is something about September that feels like the beginning of my favorite part of the year. Even if Missouri hasn’t gotten the memo yet and still wants to act like it’s the middle of summer, I have mentally moved on. In my head, it is fall. The pumpkins are out. The spooky decorations are acceptable. The cozy blankets are ready. And I am patiently waiting for the weather to catch up.
September Is the Beginning of Spooky Season
Some people wait until October for Halloween.
I am not some people.
September is when spooky season officially begins in my world. This is the month when I start wanting horror movies every night, Halloween decorations everywhere, fall candles burning, and anything that makes my house feel a little darker, cozier, and witchier.
Give me Beetlejuice, Practical Magic, Scream, Corpse Bride, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Hocus Pocus. Give me pumpkins, ghosts, black cats, skeletons, and all the spooky little things I absolutely did not need but somehow ended up buying anyway.
This is my time to shine.
I’m Ready for a Little Reset
September also feels like a good time for a reset.
The beginning of the year gets all the attention when it comes to starting over, setting goals, and getting your life together. But by September? We’ve lived a little. ๐
We’ve had good days, bad days, expensive days, exhausting days, “I’m going to completely change my life” days, and days where simply making it through was enough.
So instead of putting a bunch of pressure on myself this month, I want September to be about settling in.
I want to enjoy my home. I want to spend time with the people and animals I love. I want to keep working toward my goals without convincing myself that I have to accomplish everything immediately. I want to laugh more, worry less, and actually enjoy this season instead of letting it fly by while I’m busy thinking about what comes next.
Bring on the Cozy
I’m ready for cooler mornings, oversized sweaters, messy hair, warm drinks, blankets on the couch, and windows open just enough to let that crisp fall air inside.
I’m ready for evenings at home with the pets, something spooky playing on TV, and absolutely nowhere else I need to be.
That is basically my dream life.
And yes, I know September in Missouri may still involve sweating while carrying a pumpkin into the house.
We’re going to ignore that.
A Little Reminder for September
If you’re going into this month feeling behind, overwhelmed, or like everyone else has somehow figured out something you haven’t, here’s your reminder:
You don’t have to have everything figured out.
You don’t need a massive September goal list.
You don’t need to reinvent yourself before fall.
You are allowed to simply enjoy where you are while still working toward where you want to be.
Buy the pumpkin. Light the candle. Watch the comfort movie you’ve already seen 47 times. Decorate way too early. Take the picture. Spend the evening on the couch. Say no to something because you’d rather stay home.
Life doesn’t always have to be productive to be good.
So, Hello September ๐
You’re already more than a week old, but whatever. ๐
I’m still happy you’re here.
Here’s to a month of cozy evenings, spooky movies, changing leaves, little moments of happiness, and hopefully temperatures that eventually realize it is no longer July.
I’m ready for the “-ber” months.
I’m ready for spooky season.
And I am definitely ready for fall.
Welcome, September. ๐๐ค๐
Better late than never.
